Guango Lodge 

Description

Guango Lodge, located near the paramo and hot springs of Papallacta, is a paradise for hummingbird lovers and photographers. Seeing 14 species of hummingbirds within an hour is not uncommon, and the Sword-billed hummingbird with it's unique, long bill is sure to amaze you. Our scenic vistas and a variety of trails offer the visitor great opportunities to hike in a beautiful setting surrounded by forest-covered mountains. This small, cozy lodge is right in the middle of it all.

Activities

  • EASY BIRDING

  • Some of the birds of particular interest that we have seen regularly at Guango Lodge include the Andean Guan, Gray-breasted Mountain-Toucan, Turquoise Jay, Scarlet-bellied, Lacrimose, Buff-breasted and Hooded Mountain-Tanagers, Gray-hooded Bush-Tanager, Black-headed, Black-capped and Black-eared Hemispingus and Slaty Bursh-Finch.

     

  • HUMMINGBIRDS, HUMMINGBIRDS, HUMMINGBIRDS!!...

  • Guango Lodge's hummingbird feeders have become famous in recent years, and attract some exciting hummers on a regular basis.

  • Some of the more noteworthy species being Mountain Velvetbreast, Sword-billed Hummingbird, Tourmaline Sunangel, Golden-breasted and Glowing Pufflegs, Mountain Avocetbill, and White-bellied and Gorgeted Woodstars.

    With such an abundance and diversity of hummingbirds, Guango is also a popular spot for photography clinics, and a comfortable place to photograph birds even on rainy days. Sit back and enjoy a cup of coffee as swarms of hummingbirds put on an electrifying show!

Atinararies

Day 1:
AM
At 6:15 / 6:30 AM your driver will collect you at your hotel. We’ll start driving along the Calacali – Nanegalito road with colourful landscapes And ever-changing vistas all the way. At km 52, we will turn left and on to the secondary road which for about 30 more minutes will take as to Bellavista Lodge, perched at the top of the Tandayapa Valley.
09:30 a.m. : Discovery hike into Bellavista Reserve´s forest! Your guide will choose the best trails and hike options according to the group size (no more than 8 hikers), weather and trail conditions.
PM: your package includes another forest hike into another different trail among the many trails in Bellavista – discover the ecology of this mysterious forest. Or take a birding-specific hike! Dinner. Y
Day 2: El Gallito de la Peña
AM
5.00 AM Departure with private transfer to a local reserve to experience the Cock-of-theRock lek, and possibly other avian wonders. Back to lodge about 8:30 AM for breakfast and guided hike in Bellavista.
PM: An option to go and discover the trails on your own, along the self-guided trail or by the aid of our trail-map. This will definitely be a highly exciting moment. 
Day 3:
AM
Early morning bird hike – recommended! This is the best time to see beautiful, colourful birds surprisingly close.
8:00 AM: Breakfast Further hikes for discovery of the exuberant forests around the lodge are as planned in your package, or talk to your guide about Day Excursion options beyond Bellavista! Or take time to simply relax!
PM.
Lunch
At 2.30 / 3:00 PM, your driver will be waiting for you to embark for your transfer back to Quito City or airport. At around 17:00 / 17.30 PM you will be arriving back at your hotel in Quito.
